Ignác Šechtl and Josef Jindřich Šechtl: Calendar 2012: May

In the front of the agricultural school once stood a meterological column. That is logical. Nowadays this column is nearby a monument to Jan Hus. Maybe because according to him the world just went according to “which way the wind blows”.

The square in front of the Agricultural School has seen many changes. A granite meteorological column called Meteor was standing there from 1909. In 1935 it was replaced by a bronze statue of Antonin Švehla, whose granite base bore the inscription “Antonin Švehla, farmer and statesman”. This was in turn replaced by the statue of a Red Army soldier, which stands there to this day.
Photographed by Josef Jindřich Šechtl between 1909 and 1935.
