Ignác Šechtl and Josef Jindřich Šechtl: Stárek House. Prague Street

A magnificent example of Renaissance urban architecture, owing to minor noble family Hrošek from Trkov, who bought the house from Mikuláš Slanař around 1570. They had its façade richly decorated with sgrafitto, with figurative and ornamental motifs inspired by Italian art. Compared with the photograph, today you can see additional sgrafitto on the gable, while the inscription to the left near the windows has disappeared. In place of the two small windows on the ground floor there is now a large arch.
