Autochromes from opera performance in Šárka

The performance of this famous opera by Bedřich Smetana is here,
for a first time, being recorded in color. The opera was directed
by Max Urban, with members of the National Theatre: Marie Šlechtová
alternating with Anna Slavíková (Mařenka), Tadeusz Dura (Jeník),
Adolf Krossing (Vašek), Jiří Huml (Kecal), Emil Burian (Krušina),
Gabriela Horvátová (Ludmila), Eugen Weisner (Principál), Ema
Miřiovská (Esmeralda), Věra Pivoňková (Háta).

View of outdoor scene in Šárka. The theatre was founded by
famous opera singers Emil Pollert and Antonín Fencl. The wooden
construction had a capacity of 9526 spectators, including standing
room for almost 8000. This performance of “The Bartered Bride” had
600 performers.
