Gallery: Trip to the New World

Singer Corporation, a manufacturer of sewing machines, was established in 1851 by Isaac Merrit Singer with New York lawyer Edward Clark. Jaroslav planned his visit too early. In 1906 company headquarters were relocated to the new Singer Building, designed by architect Ernest Flagg. The Singer Building (demolished in 1968) was then the tallest building in the world.
