Until 1928 the square was called Hus Square, later Rieger Square, after the Second World War Roosevelt Square, and from the 1950s Antonín Zápotocký Square. Besides its name, almost all the buildings and the public space changed several times. The municipal weighbridge and the fountain disappeared, and after 1930 a roundabout was built in their place. At that time the corner hotel (after reconstruction, the “Grand Hotel”) was also raised by one storey. The old smithy still stands on the right. Beside it, a Škoda Works agency and the “U Kulíka” shop were later built. The small building behind the weighbridge gave way to an Art Nouveau apartment house with a small tower.
