Prague Gate on Pražská Street, demolished in 1884
Description:
Reproduction, Prague Gate and the old municipal theatre, 1882.
Prague Gate, view from Palackého Street.
Digital reproduction from a 30 × 40 cm glass collodion negative; photograph from 1882.
Although the city rejected Ignác Šechtl’s offer to document the gate before its demolition, the photographer made photographs at his own expense on 30 × 40 cm glass collodion negatives, capturing the Renaissance facade including the sgraffito on the arched gable. On the left is the former granary, converted into the municipal theatre in 1840.
