From the 1862/63 school year, a Realgymnasium with Czech as the language of instruction was opened in Tábor under headmaster Václav Křížek. It was the first school of this type in the entire monarchy. Members of the teaching staff, mostly young people under thirty, were very socially active and influenced the social and associational life of the town.
