Name:
Firefighters in Mladá Vožice
Description:
Before the bell tower in Mladá Vožice, various celebrations and performances often took place, and commemorative photographs were made there. In 1930, the Vožice firefighters brought a hand-operated fire engine there, and a photograph of the fire brigade in full gear was taken during celebrations of the 55th anniversary of its founding. Standing on the hand-operated fire engine behind the ladder, from left, are Jan Malík, Láďa Markus and Josef Adámek. In front of the ladder are Josef Němeček, Adolf Kubička and Karel Bubník. Standing below are Antonín Mikšík, Jaroslav Dufek, Karel Veselý, Antonín Svatek, František Horký, Josef Svatek, Alois Barták, bugler Vaněk and Vincenc Němeček. Kneeling are Antonín Slabý, Černý, Antonín Semrád and Josef Plaček. The creation of the fire brigade in Mladá Vožice was “prompted” by a natural disaster that struck the town on 3 July 1875, when the swollen Blanice stream breached the dams of the Obecní, later Žahourův, and Podhradní ponds, destroying the Podhradní mill and the bridge at Šebířov. In October 1875, the first general meeting was held, initiated by L. F. Matoušek, director of the first Vožice savings association, who also became the brigade’s first commander under the leadership of F. J. Zelenka. In 1921, an independent Mladá Vožice district was established; since 1935 it has borne the name of local native and historian August Sedláček. Identified by Jiří Kohout. Thank you.
