Description:: I would like to share some information about this section of photographs of Budějovická Street, where we lived from 1945, at house no. 1957 (right next to the blacksmith's shop, in the direction of the polyclinic). This is box 89. From the left:
The single-storey house was owned by the blacksmith Volek; there are small windows in the wall of the house for looking in to see whether there is space in the blacksmith's shop for a horse to be shod. Mr Volek did not allow two horses at the same time; the horse being shod would then stand badly (as a girl I very much liked to go there to play and watch the blacksmith at work, whether in the forge or shoeing horses).
The neighbouring two-storey house was owned by the Brodil couple; the Hrnčíř family lived there. Mr Hrnčíř played with a bar band in a wine bar; they had twin daughters, Ema and Eva.
Immediately next door is the clothes-cleaning shop of the Vaňek couple; they had no children. The Pešta family lived next to them and provided rubber services. The restaurant already mentioned is now in this house, and Frank's printing works stood immediately after it. I would date the photograph to 1948–1950.
