The photograph, or possibly the slide, is positioned incorrectly—mirror-reversed. The enclosure should be on the right and dates from between 1902 and 1912, when the Campanille di San Marco was absent from the square because it collapsed in 1902. Behind the enclosure was a pile of rubble and bricks from which it was rebuilt in 1912.
