Text from my book Černovice rok po roce, Černovice Municipal Office, 2012, third edition. Regards, Jiří Turek.
During the summer holidays of 1896, the local native and newly ordained priest, Reverend Antonín Tůma, celebrated “his priestly first Mass in the local church; at 10 o'clock he will be solemnly escorted from his father's house to the local church, after which the festive sermon will begin, and after it he will celebrate his first Holy Mass. Next Sunday, six Holy Masses will be celebrated from seven in the morning until nine o'clock.” He could hardly have guessed that from 1930 until the end of the Second World War he would be dean here. His older brother Václav had also celebrated his first Mass here three years earlier. A photograph of fourteen clergymen dates from Antonín's festive day on 2 August, most likely taken in front of the barn in the yard behind the rectory. Standing from the left are Dvořák, Šimůnek, Alois Bednář (a local native, ordained in České Budějovice in 1886), Václav and Antonín Tůma, Vojtěch Slunečko, Alois Zachariáš, parish priest of Hrob, Josef Staněk from Dobešov, and Jan Hromadník. Seated in front of them are Pavlík, parish priest of Věžná, Jan Pravda of Lidmaň, Alois Jirák, Ferdinand Hazuka, and Dekara, dean of Mladá Vožice. A little dog completes the peaceful group portrait. Seated in the centre is the local native Father ThDr. Alois Jirák, rector of the České Budějovice episcopal seminary and resident canon, who that year presided over the first congress of Catholics in Tábor. Curiously, Antonín's first Mass had already been announced in Jindřichohradecké listy a year earlier for 14 July 1895, while his ordination to the priesthood was announced in Budivoj on 9 April 1896.
