Name:
South Bohemian Economic and Military Exhibition, Telefunken
Description:
This is a promotional vehicle of the company Krešl a spol., which was established by the large German company Telefunken as its exclusive representative in Czechoslovakia. The company was entered in the company register as “Krešl a spol., electrotechnical (later changed to radiotechnical) limited partnership – manufacture and sale of Telefunken-brand radio equipment” on 31 October 1922.

The company was managed by chief director Ing. Bedřich Krešl, who lent the company his name but never owned it.

Around 1927 the former Přelouč company Radio ZENIT was purchased by Siemens and production of TELEFUNKEN-system equipment was introduced in Přelouč. The enterprise was named Radiotechna and later, through controlled liquidation, also replaced Krešl a spol., which had been responsible especially for commercial matters and collection of licence fees from all radio-receiver manufacturers.

For these reasons, advertisements for all three companies appear on the automobile (Krešl a spol. – commercial representation; TELEFUNKEN – product brand; Siemens – owner of the manufacturing plant in Přelouč where Telefunken sets were made).

Note: Telefunken was founded in Germany in 1893 as a subsidiary of two companies, A.E.G. and Siemens & Halske, even at the instigation of the emperor himself (to limit internal competition in radio technology).

The radio vehicle:
The vehicle usually contained an amplifier, radio receiver, gramophones and a microphone... for “loud and visible” promotion of radio broadcasting and especially products of the “Telefunken” system.

The photograph (plate) 7132 shows employees of Krešl a spol.; if a higher-resolution image were available, I would try to identify the people. In the window the successful Arcophon 3 loudspeaker is visible. <vlad.fiala@quick.cz>
