Although tanning workshops
disappeared completely from Tábor and from the banks of River
Lužnice, this part of town is still called "The Tannery". Since
this craft, formerly so typical of Tábor, the tannery workers
earned a nickname "Blue Bellies". This because the bluestone was
used for leaching of the animal hides, which thus also colored the
tanners work aprons. In the upper left part you can see the
synagogue built in 1885 and destroyed in 1977.
