Fred Payne Clatworthy (1875 – 1953)

” — 20th exhibition of Šechtl & Voseček Museum of Photography.

Excavation at Mesa Verde.

Autochrome 5 × 7 inches,

The remains of a partially mummified skeleton of a young child is displayed along with Native American pottery. There is something almost perverse about such a macabre grouping, a morbid and even grotesque still-life, in which the human remains of a child are display with the same dispassion as the artifacts o ancient civilization.
